Software Engineer

PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION

The Software Engineer implements and maintains new and/or improved web software code, procedures and techniques as they pertain to the PSTrax SaaS application.  Primary responsibilities are to analyze, design, develop, and maintain clean, high quality software code which conforms to industry best practices and company quality standards.   

Additionally, this role will regularly engage in activities with senior engineers to define and implement architecture standards, frameworks and design practices, as well as knowledge sharing activities within the Engineering department and across the company.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engineer and develop “clean”, efficient, and well-designed code for our cloud-based / SAAS application.

  • Review and analyze our legacy PHP codebase to understand existing functionality. Convert existing legacy codebase to Laravel PHP framework as required for scalability and implementation of new features and functionality.

  • Identify root causes and implement permanent fixes for bugs and code performance issues identified during testing or user operations. 

  • Engineer robust, reliable, and modern code for product enhancements to the existing functionality and for major additions of new functionality and full product modules.

  • Contribute in all phases of the software engineering lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, architecture, code development, QA testing, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Engineer and implement RESTful API communications methods within the new and legacy codebases.

  • Support RESTful API architecture principles and tools used for scalable communications protocols.

  • Utilize Agile development methodology and processes.

  • Assist in documenting and implementing DevOps methodologies in AWS production environments.

  • Implement, and maintain conformance to best-practices and modern software engineering procedures for PHP/Laravel.  Ensure conformance to long-term platform architecture strategy.

  • Participate in technical reviews of requirements, specifications, designs, code and other artifacts. Ensure commitments are agreed, reviewed, and met.

  • Identify and keep abreast of novel technical concepts and trends in software engineering, artificial intelligence, UI/UX, architecture, and emerging technologies.

  • Continuously learn new skills and adopt new practices in order to develop innovative user-centric products that maintain PSTrax as an industry leader.

  • Automated testing and test-driven development
  • Programming experience, with experience in PHP and Laravel preferred
  • Experience working on web-based / SAAS applications with greater than 50,000 active users
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience working in MySQL and relational databases
  • Understanding of MVC and object-oriented software engineering principles
  • Proven record meeting project timelines
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Team player with excellent verbal and written communication skills

Other desired experience

  • Strong understanding of full-stack modern web app development

COMPENSATION & OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS

  • Annual salary: $68,000 - $130,000
